My name is brother Pinto, and I come to share a painful and urgent reality that many of us in Mozambique are living every day. Life here is not just a struggle for survival – it is a constant battle against hunger, lack of employment, and hopelessness. For many, especially for those living in other parts of the world, the difficulties we face may seem distant, unreal, almost like they belong to a fictional story. But what I am about to describe is a reality that must be seen, understood, and, above all, helped.
Here in Mozambique, the situation is devastating. Many people are fortunate enough to have food on the table, to have a decent and stable job, but for many others, the fight for survival is a daily torment. While some squander food, buy whatever they want, and have access to everything they need, thousands of people, including children, walk miles on foot, facing unbearable heat and harsh conditions, to find the bare minimum necessary to survive. For them, having a piece of bread, a roof over their heads, or the chance to study are not distant desires; they are urgent, vital needs.
About two years ago when I was a missionary in this village of Caia, things weren’t like this, were not as alarming as they are now. But today, the situation has surpassed the limits of what is bearable. I saw exhausted, collapsed parents inside an overcrowded train, enduring the suffocating heat and not knowing how to feed their children. I saw children crying from fatigue and hopelessness, not knowing if they will ever have the chance to live a better life. Their tears are not only of physical pain but of a deep existential pain – a pain that comes from the lack of a future.

Unemployment, hunger, and drought have relentlessly dominated the country. People are losing hope, watching their children wither away from lack of food and resources. I saw families who, with nothing left, sold almost everything they had to get a meal. For many Mozambicans, having one meal a day is a luxury that requires a whole week of sacrifice, saving, and suffering. Going a whole day without knowing where the next meal will come from is an unbearable pain, a pain that cannot be explained but is felt deep in the soul.
When we observe these realities, we ask ourselves, “Why us? Why is our people being left behind?” And, as difficult as it is to understand, the truth is that, all too often, suffering seems invisible to those who have the means to help. Humanitarian aid is the only beacon of hope in this bleak scenario. That is why, as I speak to you, I make a desperate appeal: we need help. Only with the support of generous and compassionate people can we make a real difference.
We can offer relief to so many lives that are on the edge of despair. Every contribution, no matter how small, has the power to change the reality of a child, a father, or a mother who, every day, struggles to give a little dignity to their family. We cannot do this alone. Together, with your help, we can bring water, food, education, and, most importantly, we can bring dignity and hope back to those families who no longer know who to turn to.

In many of the families I have spoken to, they shared the suffering they have been facing, not just from lack of food but from the lack of perspective. People are wondering if God truly sees what they are going through. Does He care about the suffering of a child who cries from hunger? Does He see the desperate mothers and fathers trying to find something to feed their children?
This humanitarian aid is not just a matter of providing material goods; it is about restoring to these people the hope of a better future. When you make a donation, you are not just helping to feed a person, but you are offering a chance to begin anew, to transform lives, and perhaps even to save lives.
I have personally witnessed the suffering these people are facing. I saw the sadness in the eyes of children who, unlike others, do not have the privilege of dreaming of a better future. I saw parents who have lost all hope because they no longer know what to do to give their children a better tomorrow. But I believe that with your help, we can change this reality.
I ask that, as you read this, you think about the immense difference your contribution can make in the life of a child, a mother, a father who is struggling to give the basics to their family. Your help can transform these lives; it can give them what they need most: hope.
Together, we can help eradicate hunger, drought, and hopelessness. Together, we can bring new smiles, and with that, renew the strength to keep fighting.
From the heart, I thank all those who are willing to extend a hand. May we be the change we so desperately hope for in the lives of these people.
Please help out this commnity by helping us to provide basic essentials as “Christmas Gifts” for these people.
