Current Reality

We are living through difficult times, where many young people carry in their eyes the weight of postponed dreams. For years, many training programs and public recruitment opportunities were suspended, closing doors that once represented paths of hope. This year, when applications finally reopened, thousands of young people rushed to try for their chance — even knowing that there were only a few vacancies available for the entire country.

In just one province, there were only 300 positions… and more than 11,000 young people applied. Young people with talent, strength, determination, and above all, hope. Many of them are already attending university, yet still forced to seek any opportunity available, because employment has become a distant luxury.

And now, with the release of the results, thousands of faces are watching their dreams slip through their hands. It is not just the loss of a recruitment opportunity; it is the temporary loss of hope for a decent job, a salary at the end of the month, the possibility of supporting their families, and building a future.

The country is going through times of scarcity — lack of opportunities, lack of conditions, even lack of the basic necessities for survival. Severe hunger has been knocking on the doors of many families. Many young people have been pushed toward paths they never wished to follow, not by choice, but by necessity. Amid all this, the feeling grows that the world is changing too quickly… and not always for the better. But even in the midst of so much darkness, there is light.
And it is this light that we want to continue spreading.

Opportunity for Africa believes that every young person carries a talent, a strength, and a purpose — and that no one should walk alone. That is why, even with limited resources, we do what we can to create real opportunities that offer dignity and hope.

Today, we celebrate with joy the arrival of two new friends to our family:
João Bento, now an ice cream seller, and Maria, our new shop assistant.
In a country where jobs have become rare, every opportunity gained is a collective victory. It is a new beginning. It is an open door where before there were only walls.

We will continue doing everything within our reach to support, guide, and uplift those who need it most. May God bless every person who, in some way, has contributed to keeping this mission of love, solidarity, and transformation alive.

Opportunity for Africa wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, filled with strength, hope, and faith in better days ahead.
