Iam Mozambican, 25 years old, and a returned missionary for two years. Last year, I met a wonderful young woman, and despite all the challenges, we got married. Our marriage was not easy. We had no financial means, and therefore, we were only able to register our union without knowing where we would sleep or what we would eat. But despite all the difficulties, she has been an amazing wife. Together, we have faced these challenges with faith and trust in our Heavenly Father, believing that these trials are opportunities to refine ourselves and become stronger.
Our greatest hope is to one day be sealed in the temple, but the reality in Mozambique has been difficult for us and for many others who live on less than a dollar a day. Often, the food we manage to eat comes from desperate circumstances. For example, I used to work as a motorcycle taxi driver, transporting people, but I didn’t always have a good day. Sometimes I earned nothing, but I couldn’t go back home empty-handed. Even if it was just a small gesture, I always tried to offer something.
I am the oldest of 10 siblings, and my greatest desire has always been to succeed so that I can help those in need. I know what it’s like to go without the essentials, and I understand the pain of those who live without resources. Through Opportunity4Africa.org, I see a real opportunity to change my life and, more importantly, the lives of those around me. With the chance to at least have one meal a day and learn how to use this knowledge to help others, I believe I can make a difference.
However, the most important thing is that, together, we can create a movement of change. Imagine, for a moment, that we are a football team. If the best players leave, will the team remain strong? Or, without the best, will the team become vulnerable and prone to defeat? We, Africans, are the best players in this team. And we have the power to change the future of our country and our continent. If we, who already know the way out of poverty, do not stay and fight for ourselves and for others, who will?
The key to change lies in opportunities. If we can escape poverty, we can show others the way. But we cannot do it alone; we need the help of everyone. I know that with the right knowledge, we can create a better and more prosperous future for all of Africa. A wise decision can save millions of lives, while a selfish choice can destroy dreams and hopes. We must make the right choice, not only for ourselves but for future generations.
Together, we can transform the African continent and give hope to all those who are still struggling to survive. There are no limits to what we can achieve if we unite for a cause greater than ourselves.
